TITLE:

SEO Specialist

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Director, Digital Communications and Online Strategy

BASIC FUNCTION:

Manage American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) search tools to implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and best practices to improve performance, increase discoverability, and achieve measurable goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage AAP site search applications, including indexing from various AAP domains/platforms, Best Bets, and other search features to improve site search relevancy and increase engagement with web users.
  2. Monitor and evaluate search results and search performance across all major search channels.
  3. Research and update SEO keywords and related metadata in coordination with website content strategies to optimize existing and new content.
  4. Provide SEO analysis and content recommendations to web editors and content creators to provide best in class strategies for SEO-driven content deliverables that increase AAP search engine results rankings.
  5. Support and implement internal and external link strategies, A/B testing, and update website links and redirects for maximum optimization and improved SEO.
  6. Implement SEM strategies and campaigns using Google Ad Words or other paid search tactics that include measurable KPIs to achieve maximum ROI in paid search campaigns.
  7. Set measurable goals that demonstrate improvement in SEO/SEM efforts and identify areas of opportunity that can lead to increases in KPIs, and report on progress and results.
  8. Monitor website traffic and develop web analytics dashboards, reports and key reporting tools, and point out key areas of importance to SEO in accordance website goals and objectives.
  9. Efficiently communicate and collaborate with other AAP teams to align goals and manage SEO strategy.
  10. Provide ongoing training to web team members and other relevant staff on best practices and content optimization, assisting with keyword research and reporting needs.
  11. Maintain Standard Operating Procedure documentation for site search application.
  12. Monitor SEO trends, best practices, and techniques to ensure cutting edge strategy, top website rankings, and identification of new opportunities.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

Bachelors' degree in digital marketing, communications, business, IT or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education/certifications and work experience required. Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) and/or Google AdWords certification a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

At least three years' related experience managing/implementing SEO/SEM campaigns required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, project management, analytical, and critical thinking skills required, as well as a solid understanding of search engine algorithms and ranking methods, keyword research, and analytics. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office; experience using data mining tools such as Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Google Data Studio, SEMRush, Google Search Console etc; and the ability to learn and apply new technologies. Familiarity with content management systems and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Must pay close attention to detail, be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, remain agile and collaborative in a constantly evolving work environment, educate and share industry knowledge to non-technical team members, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
