1st Shift  Monday - Thursday - 4:00 AM - 2:30 PM

SUMMARY
To make cores of various sizes used in the formation of metal castings and to make core molds with no bake sand by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reads daily the posted core schedule and selects core box on boxes in the order they will be poured.
  • Cuts core vent rope, or reinforcing wires, if applicable for the core which is being made.  Bends wire to the shape which is needed.
  • Makes molds as required per schedules.
  • Cleans core box and coats with core release as necessary.
  • Uses Kloster mixer to select the type of sand mix and catalyst set up time for the core being made.
  • Makes core and allows it to set up vents where necessary.
  • Rolls core out on to a board either manually, or using core roll over machine if it is a large core.
  • Sends the core around the core loop or down the core line to the core finisher.
  • Cleans Kloster mixer at the end of the production shift.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner and follows all of the safety procedures.
  • Undergoes required training in applicable work instructions, Quality Assurance procedures, and quality polices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.

100 pound bags of zircon sand must be loaded into the upstairs hopper of the kloster mixer as required.  Core boxes of up to 80 pounds are required to be turned by hand.  Must distinguish colors on the core boxes that designate zircon facing or chill use.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
