Overview

The UAV Pilot is an FAA certified remote pilot in command responsible for safely operating UAS and remote sensing equipment such as lidar sensors, cameras, thermal sensors etc. Additionally, the UAV pilot may be tasked with collecting ground data using GNSS survey tools, weather monitoring tools and mobile LIDAR mapping systems.

The UAV must be able to work both independently and in collaborative team environments while completing mission objectives with a high level of accuracy and skill. Some missions will require work in remote locations. Examples of collection areas would be urban, desert, mountainous, agriculture, and riverine environments.

Responsibilities
    Acquire airborne data using LiDAR and imagery sensor systems
  • Work closely with other UAV pilots/survey crews while acquiring geospatial data
  • Collect, download, and ship gathered geospatial data daily after acquisition
  • Interact professionally with clients and the public
  • Extensive travel by automobile and aircraft
  • Ensure safe and secure use of company vehicles, equipment, and instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot and install aircraft and sensor systems with support
  • Comply with all policies and procedures developed for safety and operations in dynamic environment
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Interest in GIS and remote sensing
  • Understanding of geospatial and aerial survey concepts
  • High working knowledge of UAV mechanics, equipment inspection and maintenance
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of applicable FAA rules and regulations
  • Capable of independent decision making and problem-solving
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and deadlines

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related technical field
  • FAA Remote-Pilot Certificate (Part 107)
  • Field experience - minimum 100 hours documented commercial UAS PIC flight time
  • A keen eye for details and motivation to keep those details organized
  • A valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug screen & background check
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment, multiple days a week, where you may be exposed to rain, snow, and extreme heat or cold

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ year's experience planning, coordinating, and executing UAS operations
  • Familiarity with UAS flight planning software
  • Aviation background
  • GIS and ground survey experience
  • Current CPR and basic First Aid

The pay range for this California position is $36.00- $38.42 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
