About the Position

The City of Las Vegas is accepting resumes for STUDENT INTERNS with the Comprehensive Planning and Historic Preservation sections of the Community Development Department. These are hourly positions where students can work up to an average of 19 hours per week while having flexible work hours to accommodate class schedule.

THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CURRENTLY ENROLLED FULL TIME STUDENTS.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS:
When assigned to Comprehensive Planning:

  1. Creates and prepares computer-generated and manually produced maps.
  2. Reads and interprets data from a variety of sources; transfers information to various reference maps.
  3. Collects, records and summarizes technical data; prepares basic reports.
  4. Assists in preparing documents for projects, meetings, and presentations.
  5. Assists a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files; performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work.

When assigned to Historic Preservation:

  1. Researches, reads and interprets data from a variety of sources; transfers information to various documents, including gathering historical data for inclusion into reports, regularly scanning media sources for stories related to historic preservation in Nevada, utilizing digitized archival resources to locate and identify historic images and documents.

  2. Collects, records, and summarizes data related to history and historic preservation, prepares basic reports.

  3. Assists with the planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing activities and events associated with history and historic preservation.

  4. Assists in preparing documents for projects, meetings and presentations.

  5. Assists with a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files, performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS:
When assigned to Comprehensive Planning:
Undergraduate or graduate student, majoring in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies, Engineering, Sociology, Historic Preservation or a related field.

Must have a 3.0 GPA.

Students must attach an unofficial copy of their transcripts and resume to their application.



When assigned to Historic Preservation:

Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in History, Historic Preservation, Social Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies, Anthropology or a related field.


Knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, desirable but not required


Must have 3.0 GPA


Students must attach a writing sample, an unofficial copy of their transcripts, and a resume to their application.
