ChristianaCare is looking for a full-timeEnvironmental Services Supervisorat our Middletown Emergency Department - Middletown campus to direct the daily shift operations of the Environmental Services Department.

Principal duties and responsibilities:
  • May be required to perform routine housekeeping duties as assigned
  • Assists the EVS Manager by monitoring the daily operations of the entire ED department and directing the hourly staff as necessary.
  • Ensures all department staff comply with company standards regarding dress and appearance.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of all areas of the EVS/ ED operations.
  • Ensure team members are following the appropriate safety procedures involving equipment / chemicals and are compliance with Joint Commission regulations.
  • Ensure that all team members report for duty in a timely manner and have the equipment needed to perform work assignments
  • Direct work assignments to each team member and follow-up on assigned tasks regarding job quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure that all operating inventories/supplies are accurate and ordered when needed.
  • Prompt reporting and follow up of all repairs and needed maintenance.
  • Process Kronos (payroll) information on a daily / bi-weekly basis.
  • Tracks attendance and PTO balances of all department staff
  • Assists in new hire orientation and training
  • Assists staff in completing annual online (Learning Space) competency assessments
  • Coordinates scheduling of department staff for all required training (radiation, hazardous chemicals, spill training, etc.)
  • Assists staff in completion of annual electronic self-evaluations
  • Tracks medical / sharps waste volumes on monthly basis
  • Maintains personnel binders/ files for all department staff
  • Must be able to schedule, supervise, counsel, and discipline hourly department staff
  • Monitor department spending to work in unison with yearly budgets
  • Ensure weekly ED room inspections are done accurately
  • Code/ submit/ organize invoices to appropriate budget lines
  • Ensure any findings from "audits" are corrected in a timely manner

Scope, purpose, and frequency of contacts:

Daily contact with Christiana Care employees, patients, and visitors.

Direction/supervision of others:

Service Leader and department caregivers

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Environmental Services Department Manager

Education and experience requirements:

Two years of EVS operations experience preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:
  • Ability to follow department cleaning procedures.
  • Work with minimal supervision and produce consistent quality work.
  • Adapt to change in work assignments as required by department needs.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with department staff and hospital customers (staff, patients, visitors).
  • Must be always professional and strive to meet the department's customer satisfaction goals.
  • Knowledge of cleaning carts, supplies, mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning chemicals
  • Knowledgeable in ED hospital emergency code procedures as they relate to the department
  • Able to deal effectively and calmly with difficult people.
  • Able to work in a stressful environment with multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of proper PPE equipment/ gear/ footwear

Special requirements:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft and Christiana Care programs, email sites and minimal amounts of internet usage may be required (research purposes)

Physical demands:

Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting as required.
