Ketjen Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Albemarle Corporation, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to work in the Catalyst Process Technology Group at our Bayport Facility (Pasadena, TX). This group develops and champions projects for continuous improvement in refinery catalyst manufacturing. As the local knowledge base owner, the group also takes a leadership role in new product and process scale-up and introduction to the plant. The career level will depend on degree type and equivalent experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze existing process problems and define robust and innovative solutions with limited oversight.

  • Analyze existing processes and identify material improvement opportunities with limited oversight.

  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop process design scope packages for new product commercialization, debottlenecking efforts, increases in plant capacity, major operability improvements, improvements in plant HS&E performance, etc. This can include leading and/or directing the efforts of other engineers working on the project.

  • Collaborate with chemists and other engineers/scientists to scale up processes from bench to pilot to commercial scale and to select the optimal process technology for each process step.

  • Be a key member of commissioning and startup team for new project installations.

  • Participate in troubleshooting of significant process issues, as needed.

  • Actively contributing to the innovation and ideation process through the development and justification of new project proposals.

  • Providing technical support to specific manufacturing areas.

  • Report writing, presentations, project management, and potentially supervision responsibilities.

  • Continual development of your professional skillset.

  • Develop refinery catalyst manufacturing expertise in yourself and others.

Basic Requirements

  • Strong safety mindset.

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience in an operating plant environment; process design group; or a research and development organization.

  • Solid academic background and work history.

  • Excellent command of process engineering fundamentals including material and energy balance calculations.

  • Practical knowledge concerning design and operation of common process equipment such as pumps, blowers, heat exchangers, piping, etc.

  • Basic instrumentation knowledge (e.g. level, flow, pressure, etc.).

  • Basic process control knowledge.

  • Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry.

  • Working knowledge of basic process economic calculations.

  • Proven record of working successfully with personnel at all levels of a manufacturing organization.

  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.

  • Proven examples of developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Demonstrated success in process optimization and troubleshooting.

  • Initiative, creativity, and problem solving abilities.

  • Excellent written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing projects leading to significant improvements in cost, quality, HS&E, capacity or operability.

  • Experience in start-up and commissioning of new process equipment.

  • Solids handling and processing experience.

  • Batch operations experience.

  • Experience in process scale up.

  • Program / project leadership experience.

  • Significant proven experience in the areas of process development, process operations and/or design.
