Position Description:

The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is seeking a research-track Assistant Professor. We seek qualified applicants to lead basic and translational research projects towards improved understanding role of fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) that regulate immune cell lipid metabolism and function in the setting of high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and obesity-associated chronic inflammation and how this increases the risk for cancer and autoimmunity. This successful applicant will also be responsible for generating new proposals for intramural and extramural research funding both as a PI and co-PI, as well as contributing to ongoing funded research activities and laboratory oversight.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent) and a minimum of five years of postdoctoral training in basic and/or translational immunology research is required.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Experience and expertise in obesity and immuno-oncology research, as evidenced by publications in high fat diet-induced obesity and immunoregulation, obesity associated cancer and autoimmunity risks, treatments, and associated immunity.

  2. Experience in the supervision of laboratory and research personnel, including training of new personnel and day-to-day guidance of trainees.

  3. Demonstrated ability to compete for extramurally funded research applications, such as previous grant awards as a fellow or recently reviewed/scored federal grant applications.

  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by publications and oral presentations to scientific community.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Recent first- or senior-author publications in obesity and immunoregulation during cancer or autoimmunity immunology.

  2. A well-developed area of research where extramural funding can be pursued.

  3. Experience using murine models of psoriasis, cancer, and obesity.

  4. Experience measuring lipid, including fatty acid, uptake, metabolism, and content.

  5. Experience using tandem mass spectrometry, immunohistochemistry, and high-parameter flow cytometry techniques.
