What you will be doing

The Payroll Tax Manager leads the U.S. and Canada payroll tax and payroll accounting functions as well as payroll tax direct reports; ensuring the department stays compliant with all statutory payroll regulations. Works across all areas of HR Shared Services partnering to identify opportunities and developing solutions for process improvements and automation of the services provided by payroll tax accounting team while providing both internal and external clients exemplary customer service; team development; reporting and monitoring department metrics to ensure level of service requirements are met.

This position is a hybrid role with the expectation that the candidate be onsite a minimum of two days/week

  • Leads payroll tax and payroll accounting functions for all Cencora U.S. and Canada entities.
  • Partners across corporate functions on devising payroll tax strategies and expansion opportunities.
  • Ensure payroll tax compliance, including tax deposits, filings, and reconciliations to the general ledger for HR accounts are accurate and completed in a timely manner for all U.S. and Canada entities.
  • Responsible for on boarding all new Cencora entities from a tax perspective, to include leading system integrations and statutory agency notifications.
  • Manage the payroll tax team in delivering customer service, including responding to inquiries related to payroll tax, payroll accounting and accounts payable for HR, working across all Cencora U.S. and Canada entities.
  • Responsible for the payroll funding and the Human Resources department's accounts payables.
  • Collaborate in development, testing, and troubleshooting of all system changes as it relates to payroll tax
  • Collaborates with Corporate Tax to resolve business and payroll tax notices
  • Responsible for all payroll tax related audits; federal, municipal, local, provincial, as well as 3rd party vendors engaged by Unions to audit membership fees, pension payments, etc.
  • Research laws and regulations regarding federal, state, local taxes, provincial, taxable events, and payroll withholding procedures in a multi-state environment.
  • Establishes and maintains controls including relationships with auditors and state and federal agencies and third-party vendors.
  • Coordinates quarterly and annual adjustments with Manager of Payroll and/or payroll vendor including W-2C year-end processing.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

What your background should look like

Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, sales, computer sciences or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four-year bachelor's degree program, technical vocational training, or equivalent combination of experience and education; bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred. Normally requires a minimum of five (5) years directly related and progressively responsible experience.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, local and provincial tax concepts in a multi-state environment
  • Working knowledge of accounting, spreadsheet, and planning software packages; familiarity with Workday system and ADP tax services required
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
