CASUAL CAPTAIN

Forts Ferry Crossing

Location: Delaware City, DE

Hourly Rate: $29.25

Opening Date: March 4, 2024 Closing Date: Until Filled

I. POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a casual position responsible for the operation of the vessel and related equipment
in accordance with the Port Captain's instructions. Work is performed indoors/outdoors and can
be in any weather condition. Work schedules can be modified to fit the departmental needs which
may require the employee to work shift work and/or weekends. This casual position is part-time
with no guaranteed minimum number of hours, nor are there any guaranteed assignments.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Captain will assist passengers in making their transit safe and enjoyable, make safety
announcements as required, monitor passenger access/egress areas for safety and integrity,
maintain and supervise vessel cleanliness: hosing, buffing, swabbing, sweeping and scrubbing the
vessel, maintain the departure schedule, and supervise the crew in all aspects of the daily operation.

III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Navigate vessel in safe and efficient manner
* Maneuver vessel in all weather conditions
* Operate vessel electronics
* Handling mooring and heaving lines
* Ability to traverse inclined and vertical ladders and ramps
* Confidence and ability to work with and around rotating machinery, and close to the
water's edge
* Ability to provide excellent customer service

IV. TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTS

* Deck, voids, engine room and bridge of vessel

V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES

* Valid driver's license
* Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card)
* Must possess a valid U.S.C.G. Merchant Mariner License endorsed as Master 50 Gross
Ton

VI. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Must be at least 18 years old
* High school diploma or equivalency or equivalent related experience

VII. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

* Subject to a background investigation
* Subject to applicable drug testing regulations
* Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial
institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their bi-weekly pay
