ChristianaCare is currently recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Scientist I to work in the Molecular Diagnostics Lab. The work hours are 12:30pm to 9pm. Every 3rd weekend required. Holidays as required.

In this role you will perform Performs Genetic testing and associated activities to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Principal duties and responsibilities:
  • Performs all test procedures accurately as listed in the Molecular Diagnostic procedure manual.

  • Verifies specimen identification, processes order, adheres to established turnaround times, documents call, and verifies critical values.

  • Follows established quality control procedures, documenting corrective action as necessary.

  • Performs and records all scheduled instrument preventive maintenance procedures. Performs basic troubleshooting and calls appropriate hotlines, and documents.

  • Follows all CCHS and laboratory safety policies. Reviews laboratory safety manual annually.

  • Cooperates with supervisors and co-workers and maintains a good rapport with other departments. Presents a professional, well-groomed appearance always. Answers the telephone courteously and promptly.

  • Participates in quality assurance as directed by section manager.

  • Attends departmental inservice meetings as required.

  • Assists with training of new employees and students.

  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to the supervisor, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients or visitors.

  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Education and experience requirements:
  • BS in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science

  • BS in a chemical, physical, biological science

  • 1-2 years' experience in a Molecular Diagnostic Lab is desirable.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and techniques.

  • Ability to understand CCHS and departmental laboratory policies and procedures.
