Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen, lawful resident alien, citizen of American Samoa or other territory owning permanent allegiance to the United States.

Provide subject matter expertise to AFMES laboratories, specializing in biomedical maintenance and equipment repair. Serving as a liaison between logistics, vendors, and users, oversee preventative maintenance, monitor equipment status, and forecast replacements. This role involves inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of medical equipment. Maintain accurate records, complete work orders, and ensure compliance with safety standards, demonstrating proficiency in technical quality and equipment management.

Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform thorough inspection, assembly, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of assigned medical equipment.
  • Conduct calibration, verification, and certification procedures to ensure equipment accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform electrical safety testing on equipment, adhering to safety standards and protocols.
  • Restore equipment operation to serviceable standards before returning it to users.
  • Conduct spot checks on-site, review returned commercial and depot repairs, and assess scheduled service performance for proper workmanship and technical quality.
  • Prepare electronic forms for parts and contract service requests, cross-referencing part numbers to manufacturer specifications for accuracy.
  • Check work order files daily, complete work orders by recording labor time, parts information, and totals in the Defense Medical Logistics Support System (DMLSS).
  • Monitor and update DMLSS maintenance records, including Maintenance Interval without a Date Due, Equipment without a Maintenance Plan, and Monthly Timesheets.
  • Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) as assigned, following manufacturers' literature or other technical manuals.
  • Verify equipment serial number, model number, and nomenclature on the Scheduled Services Work Order listing, recording any discrepancies.
  • Open repair work orders in DMLSS to address problems beyond the scope of PMCS service.
  • Inspect all newly purchased equipment, ensuring inventory completeness in accordance with the purchase contract.
  • Perform technical evaluations for the turn-in of equipment, applying accurate condition codes according to DHA Policies and directives.
  • Accompany vendors during on-site repairs of contracted medical equipment, confirming final costs and recording man-hours and labor costs to work orders.
  • Accompany the Radiation Survey Officer during radiation surveys, ensuring a copy is submitted to the file coordinator for historical maintenance files.
  • Practice and ensure shop safety at all times, emphasizing the secure and serviceable condition of personally assigned tools.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field. Some positions may require a bachelor's degree.
  • Certification from a recognized organization such as the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC) or the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of biomedical equipment, including diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
  • Typically, 2-5 years of hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment in a healthcare setting.
  • In-depth understanding of medical equipment operation, electronics, and computer interfaces.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, vendors, and other team members.
  • Attention to detail for accurate diagnosis, repair, and documentation of equipment issues.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve technical problems efficiently.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and adherence to safety protocols when working with medical equipment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to healthcare staff and address their concerns related to equipment functionality.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic healthcare environment with evolving technology.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with other healthcare professionals, technicians, and support staff.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate records of equipment repairs, service history, and maintenance schedules.
  • Willingness to stay updated on advancements in biomedical technology through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with relevant healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address complex issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Efficient time management skills to prioritize tasks and respond promptly to equipment service requests.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
