Job Details

ChristianaCare is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute.

The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute (HFGCCRI) at ChristianaCare, located in Newark, Delaware, provides a unique environment to conduct population health science research to address cancer disparities. With more than 245,000 annual patient visits, the HFGCCRI is recognized as a national model for multidisciplinary cancer care and a top enroller in U.S. clinical research trials.

The HFGCCRI is one of a select group of research centers in the country to participate in the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). In addition, through its novel partnership with the Wistar Institute Cancer Center, an NCI-Designated Basic Laboratory Cancer Center, the two institutions have a long-standing partnership of conducting patient-focused, translational cancer research that has impacted cancer care in Delaware.

The HFGCCRI and the Wistar Institute Cancer Center are committed to equity, inclusion, fairness, and justice. The Caspar Wistar Bacchieri Disparities Fellows will play an important role supporting a new programmatic line of research in population health science. Priority will be given to research activities that have the potential to build on past successes in reducing cancer disparities and translate into impactful clinical and policy-based interventions.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work directly with Scott Siegel, Ph.D., MHCDS, Director of Cancer Control & Population Sciences at the HFGCCRI. Dr. Siegel's research focuses on delineating the relationship between multilevel characteristics (biological, behavioral/psychosocial, health care access, and environmental) and the leading potentially modifiable risk factors (smoking, alcohol use, dietary, and screening) for cancer. Specifically, Dr. Siegel's group aims to develop innovative strategies to advance cancer health equity. To see a list of Dr. Siegel's current research works, please visit: NCBI - Siegel Bibliography

Opportunities for the Postdoctoral Fellow include:

* Analysis of an existing comprehensive multilevel dataset for a large HFGCCRI cohort of breast cancer patients that includes sociodemographic, clinical, and neighborhood data.

* Community-engaged research designed to improve breast cancer screening uptake, implementation of risk assessments, and referrals to genetic counseling in breast cancer hotspots.

* Analysis of qualitative data from a range of projects related to breast cancer risk factors, screening, and treatment.

* Implementation of tobacco control interventions and programs.

* Collaboration on translational research projects that link exposure-based cancer risk factors with the epigenome and metabolome.

To learn more about this position or if you have questions prior to applying, please contact the Cancer Control & Population Sciences Research Manager, Ross Budziszewski, at ross.budziszewski@christianacare.org.

To be considered, you must include the following in your application:

* Cover letter

* Curriculum vitae

* A description of previous research with reprints of up to four publications

* A concise statement of research interests and professional goals

* Three letters of recommendation with contact information

Qualifications

* Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate degree in biomedical sciences, medicine, epidemiology, behavioral science, public health, or a related field.

* Experience in research, education, and/or outreach that included underrepresented groups is required.

* Research experience with evidence of outstanding academic achievement related to the ability to work collaboratively across translational and clinical cancer research disciplines.

* Experience with quantitative, qualitative, and research software (e.g., SPSS, R, NVivo, Dedoose, and REDCap) is preferred.

Caspar Wistar Bacchieri Disparities Fellows will be appointed for a two-year term, with full salary and benefits, and the possibility of extending or being considered for promotion. Fellows will be part of the uniquely collegial, collaborative scientific and clinical environment that characterizes the partnership between the HFGCCRI and Wistar Cancer Institute. Fellows will have access to research infrastructure, mentorship and training opportunities, and resources at both ChristianaCare (HFGCCRI) and the Wistar Cancer Institute.

Candidates of all races, nationalities, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, and economic background are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who will actively contribute to our core values of diversity, inclusion, scientific/clinical innovation, and health equity.

This position is funded by a partnership with Wistar Cancer Institute, for 2 years with the potential for a 3rd year based on the Fellow performance.
