RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Engineer with three (3) to five (5) years of experience to join our highly successful traffic group in our Wilmington, Delaware office. As a Traffic Engineer with RK&K you will work alongside and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of traffic engineers and transportation professionals in the industry. You will play a crucial role within our team, performing traffic analyses and developing traffic engineering designs to improve transportation systems throughout the region. Our projects focus on improving operations and safety for motorized and non-motorized modes of travel, providing healthy and livable communities, and implementing technology-based transportation improvements. Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, you will:

Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Perform traffic engineering work on projects ranging from small scale studies and design for isolated intersections to complex solutions for urban arterial networks and major highway systems
  • Perform traffic engineering tasks such as: transportation safety studies, transportation planning studies, and traffic operations analysis
  • Complete traffic impact studies, including the development of traffic forecasts
  • Prepare design plans for traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) including signal timing and phasing
  • Use tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS and VISSIM to plan, visualize & analyze traffic-related projects
  • Mentor younger traffic engineers in best practices and techniques
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Work closely as part of a team, collaborating effectively with teammates and clients

Requirements/Must Haves:

  • At least three (3) years of progressive experience in traffic engineering
  • Exceptional writing, verbal communication and presentation skills, including public speaking
  • Experience with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Safety Manual, Highway Capacity Manual and AASHTO guidelines
  • Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, and/or VISSIM
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

Educational Requirements and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with Traffic or Transportation focus
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam, OR have the ability to take and pass the FE exam within 6 months of employment

Preferred Skills:

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) Registration
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
  • Master's degree in civil engineering or related field
