Position Purpose
The director of communications for the Faculty of Arts & Sciences creates, delivers, and leads its communications strategy, working closely with partners across Dartmouth to support and promote the work of Arts & Sciences divisions, departments, and programs through a variety of communications channels and services. The director is a staff member in the Office of Communications and reports to the vice president for communications.
Description
This position offers a hybrid opportunity to work both remotely and onsite and therefore requires that the incumbent reside within a commutable distance to Hanover, NH.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* At least 6 years or more of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing
* A passion for higher education and working with students and faculty
* Excellent writing and editing skills, with a gift for storytelling and pitch-perfect tone
* Outstanding judgement and political acumen
* Experience working with media and media relations professionals
* Strong interpersonal skills, with a talent for collaboration and cooperation; ability to build consensus among diverse groups of people
* Demonstrated ability to develop and execute communication strategies for a complex organization
* Crisis management experience
* Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget, and with high quality
* Ability to multitask, prioritize, and sustain project momentum over periods of time
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in an educational or academic environment
Advanced degree preferred

Strategic Communications - 35%
* Provide strategic communications advice and recommendations to the dean of the faculty and the associate deans regarding communications initiatives, strategies, and issues management and resolution
* Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy and plans aligned with the dean's priorities and the Office of Communications strategic plan
* Engage with other Dartmouth offices and the media on sensitive, controversial, or high-impact topics
* Build productive relationships and work effectively with groups and organizations across Dartmouth
* Initiate and manage programs and projects that span a wide range of communications activities, including public and media relations, alignment with Dartmouth branding, marketing, internal communications, and issues management
* Facilitate communications between A&S and the Office of Communications regarding important issues related to A&S

Description
Media Relations - 15%
* Function as the primary media contact and media relations expert/spokesperson for A&S
* Create a media calendar to identify and plan for seasonal communications needs
* Provide media training to faculty members and staff as requested
* Respond to inquiries from the student newspaper
* Develop media strategy for the dean of the faculty

Description
External Communications - 25%
* Identify emerging opportunities for communicating about the work of A&S and its essential contributions to teaching, scholarship, and research
* Coordinate with the Office of Communications to develop communications plans and related documents for the rollout of A&S announcements
* Develop and oversee an A&S social media strategy in consultation with the Office of Communications
* Provide guidance and standards for the Dean of the Faculty's website as well as for department/program websites
* Support the dean of the faculty in the development of remarks, FAQs, op-eds, presentations, and talking points
Percentage Of Time 25%
Description
Internal Communications - 25%
* Work closely with the dean of the faculty office academic leadership and administrative staff and develop strong relationships with faculty and staff throughout A&S to disseminate effective, ongoing communications across divisions, departments, and programs
* Manage the production and delivery of a regular pan-divisional newsletter
* Assist with drafting and editing A&S policies, announcements, and other writing projects
Percentage Of Time 25%
