Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Electronics Technician Supervisor, performs a variety of duties involving installation, repair and maintenance of audio, video, network and computer display equipment. Works closely with Electronics Technician Supervisor and other installers to prioritize, plan, and complete projects. Responsible for the safe, timely and competent completion of assigned tasks.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to perform technical tasks associated with installation, maintenance and repair of digital and analog A/V and computer presentation systems. Experience with electronics troubleshooting tools and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and other technical documentation. Must be proficient with computer productivity tools. Ability to work independently to accomplish tasks as directed. Familiarity with industry standard workplace safety practices.

Desirable Qualifications

Project management experience. Basic carpentry and electrician skills and associated safety practices and procedures.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

1) Function: Installation, Maintenance, and Repair / Percentage of Time: Daily @ 70%


Under supervision, assists in installations, repairs, troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment including video projectors, amplifiers, lighting control systems, audio and video display, recording equipment, switches, and various other electronic devices. Interprets schematics to implement installation and repairs. Uses complex test equipment to maintain manufacturer performance specifications.

Procures parts for repair, maintenance, and the construction of special projects.

Assists in the installation of new equipment in instructional, departmental, and performance facilities. Fabricates cables, modifies equipment per schematics, and documents work. Performs rough draft and lay out work as required.

Performs preventative maintenance to assure equipment reliability. Cleans and lubricates mechanical devices, replaces worn parts, adjusts and calibrates equipment to maintain specifications.

Assists with repair and maintenance of computer equipment using hardware, firmware, and software skills as necessary.

2) Function: Technical Consulting and Support / Percentage of Time: Weekly @ 15%


Assists Senior Classroom Services Technician in coordinating with various campus engineers, network specialists, and other support staff to ensure necessary elements are in place for classes, conferences, and other events.

Keeps abreast of current trends in audio, video, and computer technology, and provides recommendations to supervisor on equipment upgrades and purchases.

Anticipates potential technical problems in classrooms and suggests preventative maintenance to supervisor.

3) Function: Administration / Percentage of Time: Daily @ 10%


Works with Senior Electronics Technician to prepare estimates, invoices, and billing.

Prepares written status reports on maintenance and repair projects.

4) Function: Other / Percentage of Time: Weekly @ 5%


Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
