Job Description
Fabrication Equip Setup (1911537)

Responsibilities: Set-up equipment and tooling as specified to maintain close tolerances and perform minor repair on press brake, punch press, verson, shear and numerically controlled machines in order to maintain a continuous flow of work for each operator.

Principal Duties: In addition to the duties and responsibilities of Machine Operators, I, II, III, perform the following:

  1. Work Safe!
  2. Basic computer operating skills.
  3. Obtain print from MES, verify its information and check for and obtain specified parts as required.
  4. Work from blue prints and verbal instructions from Supervisor.
  5. Obtain dies, steel and tool mounting equipment.
  6. Check all dies for proper identification and or damage.
  7. Correct tooling problems as needed.
  8. Turn in dies for repair as necessary. Inform supervisor and tool and die personnel of suspected problems.
  9. Check for proper repair job when returned.
  10. Position simple, compound and progressive tooling into press and secure to press bed and ram.
  11. Perform necessary operations of set-up and adjustments as described in work instruction and MES.
  12. Check controls and equipment functions such as air pressure, oil, grease, shut height, and safety functions.
  13. Assist operators in positioning work tables for proper work station layout, and direct them as to the proper operating methods for the particular machine set-up.
  14. Responsibility for making first piece to specification for operator to check against is a key quality element.
  15. Responsible for instruction to operator in correct safety procedures and noting and making efforts to correct safety malfunctions.
  16. Instruct material handlers and aid in material handling as needed.
  17. Maintain tooling and machine parts and an orderly tooling storage area.
  18. Perform minor machine repairs periodically.
  19. Maintain any records as required by Supervisor.
  20. Inform next shift set-up person of production activities and problems.
  21. Must be proficient at using measurement tools. (tape measure, calipers, compass)
  22. Must have at least a basic knowledge of stamping.
  23. Must have at least a basic knowledge of press controls and operation.
  24. Must be certified in forklift and die cart operations.
  25. Must have leadership abilities to be able to direct and communicate.

Qualifications
Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, some 3-dimensional drawings, low-ups, hidden segments where some dimensions have to be calculated.
  3. Knowledge of all press machines and detailed knowledge in several.
  4. Use of decimals, fractions, scales, addition and multiplication.
  5. Familiar with and understanding sheet metal stretches related to material thickness and angular dimensions.
  6. Certified in forklift operations.

Pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying of heavy and/or bulky parts required. Weight amounts may vary from 5 pounds to 50 pounds, any amount over 50 pounds requires physical or mechanical help. Hand and arm strength required in handling dies and equipment. May require repetitive motions of hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders, when required to perform duties of sheet metal operators. Rotating/twisting of upper body to lift, move and position dies in machine and return to storage. Ability to reach overhead, above shoulder and/or chest level to position parts and dies. Concentrated mental/visual attention required to perform accurate machine set-ups. Requires visual attention to position, position parts safely and efficiently. Must be able to recognize machine difficulties quickly and take action to stop machine if necessary.
